Scotland’s tourism industry is continuing to grow as the number of overnight visitors to Scotland rose by 9 per cent in 2011 according to the latest figures.
Figures from the Office of National Statistics publication “Overseas travel and tourism: Quarter 4: 2011”, combined with those from the Great Britain Tourism Survey show that there was an 14% increase in expenditure by overnight visitors to Scotland in 2011 compared to 2010.
The domestic “staycation” market continued to perform well with a ten per cent increase in visits to Scotland from within Great Britain, and a 20 per cent rise in the amount domestic visitors spend.
